Working from a clean slate

In the new year it’s a good idea to clear the decks, sweep the floor, start fresh with specific projects. From a fresh palate- I know, so many metaphors! Seriously, think about the best metaphor for yourself.

Now Choose Your Top 3 Colors

I like to visualize an artist’s painting palate. If there are more than 3 colors of paint on my palate it may create too many options.

Starting fresh means to be able to visualize what’s next and what’s best to begin with and then, finally, working with only 3 colors will help me focus. Take a look at your list, if you have 10 things on your to-do list choose your top 3 in order to prioritize for the day, week or month.

Now you’ve got a way to ‘chunk it out’ and attack your first priority with zest and energy. When you’ve completed that item, be sure to celebrate. One of my favorite ways to celebrate is to schedule a massage, or take a walk with a friend, or plan a visit to the local museum.

This brings to mind something I’ve spent years teaching, Julia Cameron’s, The Artist’s Way. Participants of this program commit to taking themselves [alone] on an Artist’s date every week.

The local museum or zoo are good places for an artist’s date. Going to a new coffee shop would also be a unique treat. Going to a coffee shop with my journal is a great idea for an artist’s date.

The artist’s date is now an exclamation point on my calendar. What will put an exclamation mark on yours?
